Buzz was comparable to Greenberg IMO...

Greenberg was 170-123 (.580) in 9 years versus 100-69 (.592) with Buzz in 5 years. Both very comparable. Greenberg was was 68-76 (.472) in ACC play whereas Buzz was 44-46 (.489) in ACC play; both below .500 in the ACC. Greenberg only made the tourney once wth a slew of NITs, but arguable was robbed by the committee many years. Buzz made 3 straight NCAA tourneys with a Sweet 16 this year. Greenberg beat three #1s which was a very impressive feat. Both coaches inherited very poor teams. Greenberg had to rebuild what Stokes left behind and turned it around. Buzz had to do the same with JJ’s team.

That said, I was appreciative of both coaches when they were here. But once Greenberg was fired, the mistake was in the hiring in the next coach. So I don’t have the same animosity with Greenberg as I do with Buzz. But Greenberg had his problems. Buzz left on his own accord and we are not left in better shape. Buzz coached for Buzz, and not Virginia Tech. If he cared at all about Tech, we wouldn’t have empty cabinets right now. He built his class of seniors, planned to win with them, then left and took the remaining spoils with him.
