My expectations have changed. Nothing to do w CJF but football as a whole

VT will never compete for a NATTY a la 99. Not only has the process to get there changed, but the landscape itself is grossly tilted to the Haves and VT is a “HaveNot” comparatively.

If you look at the budgets and revenues compared to other schools as CC has, VT has overachieved the last 15 years. That is remarkable. But until that NCAA economic bubble bursts and the playing field is leveled (equal number of staff/coaching positions for all schools, salary cap for coaching staffs, recruiting budgets leveled, shoe contracts that aren’t insane, and cost of attendance that makes sense) - VT will never compete w those in the top20 of revenue, donations, budgets (Bama has 150 on its football “staff” for example)

I never thought I’d say it - but a Natty is more feasible in basketball where 7-8 good experienced players can make a run of 6 wins to end the year and take the title. It’s easier to recruit these 7-8 guys than it is 70 or so for a football program.

I’m an economist and capitalist, and as much as it pains me to talk about salary and spending caps - that’s the only thing I see that returns NCAA to what it was was meant to be - amateur sport for student athletes.
