If he knows he wants to go to VT then apply early action that is binding and do not declare a major. Also - in the essays always emphasize service opportunities that your son has participated in. If he does not have many then he should volunteer this summer as much as possible. If given a choice in essays always choose the service essays. There is a reason our motto is Ut Prosim.
