Seems to me...
...that there's plenty of room in higher education for all sorts of institutional missions.
And most good schools have an admissions cutoff well above their minimum requirements for acceptance. If they get 3000 qualified applicants for 1500 seats, and decide that student 2,345 deserves a chance because they qualified coming out of some meth-ridden excuse for a Kentucky school system, will the Anglosphere be overrun by Huns and Visigoths?
If a university wants to only take the best of the academic best, good for them. If another wants to provide opportunities for less fortunate but probably good enough students, good for them too!
