Repeating vehicle issue - how would you address this?

We have a GMC Acadia that has about 2 weeks left on the warranty. Next week will be the 3rd time we've been in for the same power tailgate issue. I push the button to close it (Key fob or on the tailgate) and it comes down and just before it actually closes, it thinks something is in the way and goes back up.

Each time we've been to the service department, I DO feel like they've made good effort to fix it, escalating to corporate service when the initial fixes didn't seem to work, so I don't think it's an incompetent service department I'm going to, just a hard to solve issue.

Each time they've 'fixed' it, it works better for awhile (Fails once out of 15 tries) but then progressively gets worse (right now, only works 1 out of 3 or so tries).

So do I make sure the problem is noted as being recurring and in the warranty period, so if/when it happens again in 2 months the fix will still be covered? And again after that. And again as necessary?

Or do I contact GMC and say "How much do you charge for a power liftgate? Oh, $800 huh? Send me that please." and live with it if/when it happens again?
