$54 Million...

This is the first article in recent memory that has stimulated me to return to actual realignment projections. The discussion had fallen dormant for so long about who might go where. The most eyepopping figure, of course, is the B1G's $54 million payout in the first year of their new contract. That's $24.5 million beyond the ACC. Yes, the ACCN will arrive soon, but... $24.5 million! Wow. For the B1G it represents a 48% increase over their previous contract. They won't be making strides like that ech year, but the SEC grew by a tepid 1.5 %.
The SEC will renegotiate their CBS contract for the 2024 season, but it's secondary to their aeonic ESPN deal. The B1G reworks their entire package begining at the same interval. The Big XII contract expires before then, but I expect the B1G and SEC will have settled on terms for their new media deals, and the Big XII schools will have an opportunity to consider their options.
Things change. Rules and economies change. New media players seem poised to enter the market. But the ACC and SEC are constrained by their ESPN relationships. ESPN will not want to see Oklahoma and/or Texas join the B1G. But how do they prevent it?
