As you indicate, there have always been distractions to driving - talking


to others in the vehicle, radio, kids, etc. The mobile phone has significantly contributed to the distractions mostly, IMO, because we have “learned” or been conditioned to respond asap to any inquiries we get through the device, whether answering a call, email or text message. Our cars, as many others, have the Bluetooth system where you can make calls or answer the phone handsfree. But, it’s still a distraction. And, while we are at it, add the GPS systems in cars (and phones) to the distractions list.

Common sense in dealing with these things should prevail, but unfortunately it’s become secondary.
