Everybody values things differently.


A lot of super rich people have more money than sense. If someone wants to pay extra to feel good about the deal, more power to them and the agents - just don't have the agents cry and scream "but that's the standard" when someone who is a good negotiator questions the value they bring to a high dollar deal.

Pure logic (not opinion) tells you that if someone is doing essentially the same work on two different deals the added value doesn't change by the factor of the number of zeroes on the deal. Larger deals may (or may not) require some additional work for some specified compensation, but that level of effort doesn't follow the same curve as the price of the house at the high end.

Actually had an agent try and tell me that the percentage was mandated by "regulations" once. He didn't last long.
