Gudas is just a body. He'll be a 3rd line D who, with luck, attracts some referee attention away from Top Line Tommy.
The big part is the contracts. Nisky has a $5.75M cap hit in 2020 and 2021. That's now PHI's responsibility. Gudas will cost the Caps $2.345M in 2020, and then he's gone. The net result is $9.2M of cap space for the Caps over the next two seasons.
Trading Nisky gives them more room to make decisions about Vrana, Connolly, Bura, Hagelin, Djoos, etc
