It is possible that the ACC may be to blamed (or partially blamed)


for laying the foundation. At least I wonder if the pencil pushers at ESPN (or Disney) see having the most private schools among the P5s and having a percent of public schools with smaller fan base as being a "negative" for the ACC. Maybe ESPN's/Disney's logic is smaller fan base = less passionate fan base and less ratings ($$$$) for ESPN/Disney. Also, it is possible the ACC's determination to hold onto its "academic integrity" for as long as it did may have unknowingly impacted its athletic image in a negative way. I say unknowingly because no one (including the ACC) could have predicted in the 1950s the changes people would see in the revenue model for college athletics in today's environment.
