Yeah, I know why there is flopping in soccer
as you say, the consequences of a single penalty in the game are exceedingly dire. When most games end at either 1-0 or 2-1, the value of a single penalty kick is huge. Game-changing, in most cases. So yeah, it would be like a 30 point free throw, or a 10 point roughing-the-passer penalty.
I get all that. But still, you don't really see the US team, or the Germans, or the Brits roll around on the ground in fake agony. As a culture, they seem to have sportsmanship values similar to ours. So the game can be played without the fake injury theatrics.
Sure, flop, try to draw the foul. That is perfectly normal in sport. Just leave out the pretending you got hit with a sniper's bullet in the leg the the Italians and some South American countries.
