Generally speaking, defenses tend to be ahead of offenses

at the beginning of the season. Since both teams have a lot of questions about their defenses going into the season, does that mean the game will be an offensive shootout or watching a bunch of old folks run a marathon (aka first team to 3 points wins)? If the game ends up being a "shootout," then the game may be decided on which defense is the first to make the opposing offense throw the ball. On paper, VT should probably win the game by 10 points or so. However, games are not won or lost on paper.

Given that it is the first game of the season and I am generally bad at gambling, I have a feeling that the game will end up with a lot closer margin of victory. Probably somewhere in the ballpark of 3.5 points.

VT = 20 and BC = 17

At least I think both offenses will struggle to find ways to move the ball throughout the game which may be scary when you consider that neither defense will look great during the game.
