I never said this year's D would match the 2004 defense in any way.
I'm merely stating that Foster has blamed player execution in the past and he was right. There's no historical basis for thinking he isn't correct this time either. It's difficult to scheme to cover a lack of talent, a lack of experience or knucklehead players not executing as they're coached to execute. Blame him for not recruiting better defensive players and then you'd be onto something but VT wasn't going to stop tough, physical running teams with the inexperienced defensive personnel fielded last season, no matter how many different schemes they tried. Hopefully this year we'll see some improvement with more experience, knuckleheads gone and a few new players available. Fingers crossed.
