Hokie Golf Review-Week 31

Since Suwannarut, Cone and Weaver all missed the cut, let's dive deeper into Johnson Wagner. This week he finished T13, to move to #141, cashing $109,533.34. He also scored 4.1 world points, moving his world ranking up to #287, his highest ranking in almost exactly two years.

He was #133 in 2018, #140 in 2017 and #150 in 2014, so he's knows how to play and schedule out of the 126-150 bracket of the tour eligibility rankings.

To have a good chance of breaking out of that bracket, you need at least 2 top 10 finishes. He only had one (T2 in Puerto Rico) this year. He had none in 2018. He made two in 2017, but he missed 17 cuts to keep his ranking down. In 2016, he had 3 top 10's and only missed 9 cuts and was a comfortable #78. In 2016, he had 3 top 10's and missed 11 cuts and finished #87. In 2015, he had 1 top 10, missed 13 cuts and barely stayed in at 150.

So moral of the story is to keep your card, you need at least two top 10's, and make the majority of your cuts, or win a tournament. With the fall series being extended this year, I suspect we'll see Wagner in most of the US based tournaments and he needs to get some high finishes while the big players are taking time off in preparation for the 3 Asian tournaments.
