Coke or Pepsi?
I watched "Cola Wars" on the History channel last night. Kind of interesting to see the history. I think the winner of the cola wars was the soft drink industry in general. But I think Pepsi gained a little more. Before the cola wars started in the 70s, Pepsi was number three in the soda market, behind 7up. Also, it seems like the failure of New Coke could be attributed more to Pepsi than Coke. When word of new Coke leaked out, Pepsi instantly started an ad campaign that they had "won" the cola wars, and forced Coke (classic) off the shelves. It was Pepsi's efforts that converted the "New Coke" story to being the national news headline that Coke wasn't prepared for.
