The two institutions, being in different divisions in the ACC, decided that
they weren’t playing frequently enough. They scheduled home and home series as a non conference game. They have an 8 game conference schedule as dictated by the ACC, this game is not part of that.
Imo, it makes a lot of sense. Each school gets a lost cost ooc game with little travel involved with a P5 opponent that has some local interest. Financially, it’s probably cheaper than paying some whipping boy to come play.
