There is a good reason for both, and both are a concern.

We don't have much of a pass rush, because 3 guys can't beat 5 guys to get to the QB. The CB play is so weak, Bud can't bring the house at the QB and leave the CB's on an island. They simply aren't that good, hence the reason you see 8 guys drop into coverage. There isn't a Flowers, or Hall (among others), or Chancellor or Jimmy Williams at safety as a backup. If you don't get to the QB, the WR's will eventually find a place on the field to be open.

We got spoiled by having some guys worthy of the DBU moniker. We don't have any that could get admitted to DBU, let alone graduate to the next level.

On the running game, we don't have a Kevin Jones, Lee Suggs, Brandon Ore, Shyrone Stith type RB, bigger guys that can take a beating. And, Fuente's modus operandi is more passing. Frank was run first, to set up the pass, Fu is more pass first, to set up the run. Problem is, he is focusing on recruiting WR's, not RB's. King is good, but, damn, he looks little on the field, because he is. I think for both he and McClease, those weights listed are generous. Holston is a Billy Hite type back. And, the o-line is going to be geared toward one or the other, run or pass blocking. It is hard to do both well. Our line does a better job protecting the QB than the RB.

Which is a bigger concern? Your guess is as good as mine, but the things that were the strongest in the past, seem to be the weakest now.

My nickel's worth, and it's about worth that, a nickel, is that Fuente is a Big XII coach. He is an 'outscore the other team guy' whereas, Fancy Gap Frank was a Jerry Clairborne disciple, 'if the other team can't score, we only have to score once' to win.

We are dealing with a totally different philosophy now, and it'll take some getting used to, if Fu can hold on. I used to be very content when the other team had the ball. Back in the late 90's, we had 8 or 9 different positions on the field score a TD, on the defensive side of the ball, be it a scoop and score or a pick 6. There were games when the D damn near outscored the offense, if not actually pull it off. Heck, I liked it when we punted and pinned the other team back, it wasn't so far to have to run with the pick or fumble recovery. Now, we are bend but don't break, hope to keep the opponent to a FG, not a TD.

The offense isn't there yet. Will it ever be? Who knows, but now, I'm nervous as hell when either the offense or defense is on the field.
