Chrysler had a 340 in the late ‘60s. My brother had one in a


Dodge Dart Swinger with the Hurst 4 speed. That thing would go.
The 340 was the same engine block as the 318. The 302 Boss, the Ford 351, Chevy 327 and Chevy 437 engines couldn’t hang with it in the quarter mile. I also witnessed him blowing away a396 chevelle. The key to the performance was the correct rear end ratio to go with the 4 speed trans and the high torque engine.
My brother would also tell you that the driver played a big part in the qtr mile time.
