While his words may be harsh, I think Leach is right overall.
The everyone-gets-a-trophy, helicopter-parented generation contains far too many people (elite athletes included) whose reaction to adversity is to pout, quit, and wait for some authority figure to fix it for them. In addition, there is a level of emotional immaturity and acting-out that simply was not seen in previous generations of athletes... especially those playing a game that is supposed to be about toughness. We've unfortunately had a ton of that lately at VT and to us, it may seem like it's a problem that is specific to our program- but it is happening everywhere.
