Former Lions fan here. I grew up liking the Lions because my Dad was a high school coach and his team was also the Lions. I always joke with him that my life would be less stressful if his team was called the Patriots.

There were some good times with Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, but only one playoff victory in my lifetime, and constant disappointment. I finally gave up on them during the winless season, once I realized I had no real affiliation with the team or the city (never been to Detroit). I still have some random Lions memorabilia in my house, but I don't regret stopping rooting for them, especially after games like last night.
