It's a 2 part process.


You have to get them comfortable and confident operating a vehicle first. They can't be paying attention to what's happening around them if all of their energy is just spent trying to keep the car on the road and operate the pedals smoothly. Once that's accomplished the driving part becomes more subconscious, and then they can invest the appropriate amount of attention to navigating the world around them and making better, more timely decisions.
