Then again, any "conclusions" someone has drawn could be based on an "educated guess" because no one has taken the time to collect enough of the data points. Another assumption that has to be made is that the student-athletes are giving honest answers when asked questions vs. making assumptions based strictly on the student-athletes' grades.

For the record, I am not opposed to a student-athlete opting for early admission because I do think it has benefits on the academic side. I am just not sure if it changes the mission of the redshirt year on the athletic side enough to justify using it for injury reasons. Basically I would like to see the rules changed so the redshirt for non-medical reasons and redshirt for medical reasons are treated differently. The redshirt for non-medical reasons would still be a 1 time deal like it is now. However, the redshirt for medical reasons would automatically give the student-athlete 1 additional year for each season missed due to injury without being required to use the other redshirt. In order for the rule to kick in, a student-athlete would have to miss at least 85% of the regular season due to injury.
