I've been noticing a terrible case of child abuse and abandonment lately.

I live about a block from the local elementary school, and the kids are going to school about the same time as I leave for work. That means the next street over is full of cars with parents driving their kids to school. But a family down the street from me just lets their two kids (young kids, maybe first to third graders?) walk to school by themselves - a whole block and a half. What is the world coming to when kids can just walk to school by themselves like that?
