Even if you aren't a Tech homer, the documentary is worthy of criticism.

And when you have the main commentator a "cultural critic" that no one ever heard of and a "sports journalist" more inclined to race baiting than talking actual sports, you should expect some push back.

You are right, it is called VICK. But it should have been called "Vick: A racial theory". And even if their racial theory was correct, it is not a germane issue in this story.

Also, in a four hour documentary, they have plenty to time to explore other angles, and they largely failed to do it. In a story about VICK, there are issues that are far more relevant that they left out.

A. If they wanted to talk about Vick making Virginia Tech, they should have talked about the impact on the program--5 star recruits coming their way in Vick's wake, applications and SAT scores being up, a stadium expansion, an invitation to the ACC and so on. Instead, they talk to the aunt about turkey legs and cotton candy. Sorry, but this is just intellectually lazy. Especially when you have FOUR hours.

B. They pretty much brushed the Marcus Vick thing under the rug. Tech must not have been so bad if little brother went there when he could have basically went anywhere. After all, they did mention that Michael wanted to be a role model to him. And by the way, if Tech is to be criticized in anything here, it is its permissiveness of Marcus Vick's actions (they kind of parallel the Falcons' treatment of Michael). And if the producers were hell bent on making it about race, they could have talked about the soft bigotry of low expectations. And was it race, or was it the stardom and unparalleled athletic ability that contributed to the lack of accountability in each case?

C. The NFL Draft. This is perhaps the most disingenuous part of the 2 hours. They were acting like being a black quarterback and a running quarterback was somehow an obstacle at that point in history. There was never a doubt that he wouldn't be the number one pick. And no one of good repute thought he'd be a bust. Still can't get over why they put the Jimmy the Greek quote in there. Had Mel Kiper said that on draft day, sure. But not some '70s gambling handicapper.

D. What about the anti-freshman bias that jobbed him out of the Heisman? Ron Dayne, seriously?

Anyway, this list is non-exhaustive. But you get the point.
