A big “what-if” is if Vick went to Syracuse instead of VT, which apparently was only a phone call with Mama Vick from happening.

From the VT perspective, did we have any other QB prospects we were targeting with the ‘98 class that we might have landed if not for Vick? Or is Dave Meyer our QB for ‘99-‘00? Assuming the latter, we probably ride our defense to 9-2 or even 10-1 (losing to WV definitely and maybe Pitt). Hard to tell after that. And in the longer run, maybe we don’t leverage our football success into an ACC bid.

From the Vick and Syracuse perspective, it would have been interesting to see how Vick would have done grasping their notoriously complex freeze-option offense. He probably wouldn’t have been the huge star he was at VT, just because ‘Cuse didn’t have the supporting cast to make it to the MNC game, I think at best they get nine wins in each of ‘99 and ‘00 (and still lose to Tech in ‘99).
