Tourneys always have surprises (ups and downs) + nobody is eliminated
also, ACCT isn't the end goal. (Some of our bubble guys do need a good ACCT to qualify for NCAAT)
In years past we've seen:
2016 #5 DMF end up 3rd in ACCs, then 6th @ NCAAT (outplacing NCST's 165 that earlier beat him by TF)
2016 Brascetta finish 2nd in ACCs, then turnaround and avenge the loss to Gant from NCST in NCAAT finishing 3rd
2016 Epperly loses in OT to Ramos (UNC) then outplaces him for 3rd at NCAAT
2016 and 2018 Zavatsky and Pete Renda NCST went back forth so many times you can't say who was better, in 2016 ZZ wins ACCT, loses to Renda in NCAAT - in 2018 that was reversed
2018 - Brent Moore lost by TF to Jack (NCST), then stuns the world and beat him for the ACCT title
Moral: There will always be surprises, at this level nobody can take a day off. If you aren't at your best for whatever reason (sick, injured, bad weight cut, not focused) you will be taken advantage of. Your opponents will also adjust from previous head-to-head matchups and all the video. Sometimes that goes our way, sometimes the other way.
