He was there the whole day. I’m sure it had more to do with the fact that as the HC, he’s more of a general manager than a coach anymore, so in a situation where there’s only two coaches allowed, he lets the coaches who work directly with that specific wrestler coach him.
Not to say he doesn’t coach anymore, but I’m sure Frayer, Brewer, and Haught put a lot more one on one time with the guys (and have competed much more recently) than he does.
The sign of a good leader is one who knows his shortcomings and hires those who can shore up his weaknesses. He’s delegating, and I think it’s paying dividends. For all the talk of underperforming, we still qualified eight (and hopefully nine) for the NCAAT. So he must be doing something right.
