Interesting comments from the ACCN team at the end of the game

I have been taking the high road in thinking that all of this youth would eventually blossom into a big time hoops team in 1-2 years. Clearly, Wes Durham was on the same page as me at the end of the game until Cory Alexander poured cold water all over that take with his comments:

"UNC brings in 4 Parade All Americans next year. UVa has a big recruiting class coming in. Duke will re-load. blah blahso we still may not have seen the bottom quite yet. He then said, the 2-way contract with the G-League now matters. "

Upon hearing that, I think Mr. Nolley may have played his last game in Blacksburg.

The end of this season really was painful to watch. The 12 minute drought against ND on Saturday had me horribly frustrated and I was miles from South Bend.

On the positive side, we will be a year older and more suited to the MY system. We will have a new big man in Aluma and two top-100 recruits coming in. Catoor and Cone clearly improved throughout the season and Radford has a great future in the right role.

This team desperately needs someone at the point that can get to the rack. It also needs a big that can get us paint touches while being able to feed cutters for shots from 3. Without those pieces, we are very easy to guard and once the league figured that out, we lost all but two games after January 15.

Let's hope Landers returns for one more season as I think he is first round material with another year under his belt. Let's hope the transfer portal does not continue to kick us around. Let's hope that a year of getting beaten up in the ACC sharpens our resolve and teaches this team what is needed to be successful.

Next year is a crossroads year. This group will hopefully cross into the upper half of the league and make a move toward March. If not, we will be just another Boston College or Wake Forest and will struggle to emerge into the upper class of the league.

We will never do it with top-10 players or McDonald's All Americans. We need to do it with experience and tough kids with something to prove.
