Tincher, 21, would seem to be a long shot to wind up at the Summer Games in Beijing. Her pitching competition includes former Olympians Jennie Finch, Lisa Fernandez and Cat Osterman, as well as Monica Abbott, the 2007 college player of the year.

"It's very difficult for a college player to break through at that level, especially pitching," U.S. assistant coach Karen Johns said. "Our pitching staff has been predominately older kids. But to just be in the process on a collegiate level is an extraordinary accomplishment.
