One problem with the Borst 197 plan is you're pretty much locking in 285.


If we knew right now that Catka will come in ready to rock and roll and do damage nationally at 285, having Borst drop down to 197 would be great for the team -- assuming he can still make the weight and perform well there.

But even though he was a top guy in high school, Catka and the staff might end up deciding that redshirting might be better for his long-term prospects. That would get him the extra year at the end with 4 years at VT under his belt, instead of jumping in against guys with 3-4 years of college right away.

If you're not sure one way or the other, having Borst cut down to 197 is pretty risky since we wouldn't have a clear starter at 285 if Catka redshirts.
