GC to your thoughts on defense, how much of it is teachable

Can someone like CMY take pretty much any player with the right kind of build and athleticism and teach them high level straight up man defense, if they come in a bit green in that regard? Does a player sorta have it or sorta doesn't?
When CMY was first hired and said he was pretty much exclusively a man defense coach, does not do zone, I wondered has the game progressed where "junk" or zone defenses as a changeup don't hold the same weight anymore?
You probably remember one year under CSG, I forget which, when Adrian Autry was on staff there was a point in January where CSG incorporated zone and had Autry working with that team on it, and it was pretty darn effective.
Bill Foster was a man defense coach..I'll never forget one of his first couple seasons when he was still building that team, a better Tulane team played in Cassell..and Foster knew they hadn't seen any zone all year and he surprised them with it and we upset them.
