I think college sports is getting ready to change big time
Schools are dropping sports left and right now. Without football, they can’t afford to fund these sports. Or so they say. How come it wasn’t that difficult to fund these sports 20 years ago?
Here’s the problem. As football money increased, a lot of schools sought out newer conferences to chase the money. But now they are finding out that money doesn’t exist outside of a few conferences.
And a lot of these schools joined conferences with teams a thousand miles apart. That’s fine for football, but does ODU’s tennis team really need to travel to Texas for a conference match? Makes no sense.
I think there’s only one solution for saving college sports for 90% of schoolsThere needs to be football only conferences. For nearly every other sport, smaller regional conferences are a more financially and reasonable solution.
I also think there should be a super league for the programs that spend the most money for football.
