It's a heat of the wires/socket thing. It's legit, but you go off the


actual power of your LED or CFL, not their incandescent equivalent. In other words, unless you are doing something absurd you almost never have to worry about it with an LED bulb.

One thing you do need to worry about with LEDs is how hot the bulb's innards get. This is why some LEDs will say not for use in enclosed fixtures. Despite generating less heat than an incandescent bulb, an LED can't handle the same heat either. They need to be kept somewhat cool for the control circuit, which an incandescent doesn't have, to function properly. In an enclosed fixture, the heat can build up.
