The Florida Gulf Coast Softball League will begin play Thursday and several Hokies will be playing in the league. Kelsey Brown and Maddi Banks will be playing for the Bradenton Slice, Kelsey Bennett will be playing for the Impact, and Morgan Overaitis will be playing for the Lynx.

I'm hoping Ms. VTChip and I will be able to do a trip to Florida in the near future, but in the meantime, I'll try to post any news that I see.

Justin's World of Softball did an article on "Seven Players to Watch During the FGCL Season" and the first player named was Kelsey Bennett:

Bennett is one of the collegiate game’s most exciting youngsters, still just a sophomore thanks to the NCAA’s extended eligibility blanket waiver. Look for the utility infielder to make an impact on the dirt and at the plate; Bennett owns twenty-one career home runs in two years at Virginia Tech and is one of the FGCL’s biggest names during their inaugural season of play."

That's pretty good praise for one of our Hokies!
