I'm not optimistic, Techmom
I know Roanoke County very well.-especially the elementary schools in the division. Schools like Clearbrook and Fort Lewis simply have very little if any surplus space. On top of that, these schools and others have much smaller classrooms than others. The classes will need to be divided.
I know this, if the county is determined to bring kids back on the cheap; without increased temporary space, mandatory masking for kids and teachers, boosted personal technology resources, increased staff, etc any partial or full opening this school year will be very temporary.
As of now, the plan for reopening here (yet to be approved) only masks teachers and older kids. It boosts technology, but not enough. I'm not aware of any efforts to increase staffing or find additional temporary space (modular classrooms).
Going back to the school site during this pandemic will be expensive, one way or another.
