I have been diagnosed. It was caused by
severe foot sprain. So I am dealing with multiple foot issues. Having said that, my ortho doc “prescribed” the foot pads linked below. They can be rinsed and reused multiple times. The adhesive really lasts. Placement of the pads is critical. You will notice from the image they do not cushion the pads of your foot. They are designed to cause your metatarsals to spread which relieves pressure on the nerves leading to your toes.
Accordingly, you want shoes with a wide toe box. Good running shoes didn’t help me. Not wide enough in the toe box and more importantly, the “drop” of the shoes were too steep. In general, I recommend a flat shoe with little to no drop, wide toebox and with a smooth insole to allow the foot to easily slide/spread flat.
I spent a lot of money trying to find the right shoe for me. Turns out for me that was $49 original Converse Chuck Taylors. They lace down to the toe box allowing a looser toe box and a flat drop. The pads I linked below also work better in these shoes due to the lack of cushioning allowing the pads to push up into the foot. And no, I’m sure you don’t want to hike in Chucks.
Finally, see a doc when it seems safe. Morton’s Neuroma can get worse and become chronic. [Post edited by Femoyer Hokie at 07/08/2020 12:05PM]
