Upcoming 2nd cataract surgery. One eye has already been done and set...

for distance. My doctor used a Toric lens (for my astigmatism, over $1,000 out of pocket), and the result is remarkable—well worth the cost. Now I’m trying to decide from among three options for the other eye:

- Have it also set for distance, as most people do, and use reader glasses for close work
- Have it set for nearness, and the eyes would hopefully adjust so I could see both far and near
- Pay extra (maybe $2,400?) for a lens set for nearness that also preserves distance vision—a sort of Cadillac lens

I’m willing to pay for the distance-preserving lens if the results will be appreciably better. My Covid-19 test didn’t come back in time for surgery tomorrow, so now I have another week to decide. I’ve always been used to grabbing glasses for driving and TV and not using them otherwise. And I flunked at bifocals—twice. Just couldn’t get used to them: I kept banging into the cereal and fresh produce at the grocery store.

So I’m wondering what choices others have made and how happy they’ve been with the results. Many thanks.
