One could take the other side and claim the extra cases wouldn't be there.

Some countries never closed their schools.

Germany claims to be testing for symptoms and then calling it testing for the illness. That is a much higher threshold for counting people who are infected. We know 80% are asymptomatic and children are going to have an even higher rate without symptoms.
