If you bought a brand new Apple IIe in 1983 it would have


Set you back about $2,000. You could have purchased Apple shares for $0.67 at the end of 1983 on a split adjusted basis. So you could have saved buying the computer and instead have bought about 2,985 shares.

If you jumped on the first edition IPod in October of 2001 that would have set you back $399 for the base edition. Apple stock traded at $1.45 at the end of that year on a split adjusted basis. You could have stuck with your Walkman and taken home about 275 shares.

Today it closed at just over $425 dollars. Your decision to buy Apple stock in 1983 instead of the computer would now be worth almost $1.3 million.

You decision to stick with your Walkman in 2001 would now be worth about $117k.

Given the number of Apple products in my six person household I don’t want to ever find out what that means in 20 years.
