Turbocharging is more efficient

What we're seeing now is the move to smaller displacement turbocharged engines. On top of that, we're seeing much higher boost levels, and much higher compression engines than ever before in the search for higher efficiency.

DI is one technology that has gone mainstream.

I think Mazda is trying to bring compression ignition to gas engines, achieving diesel efficiency with gasoline engines.

Nissan has a variable compression engine on the market, so it gets the efficiency of a 4 cylinder engine with the power of a 6-cylinder.

There are many more technologies on the way...
