Fall Roster

VT sure is taking advantage of the NCAA’s relaxation of roster rules for 2020-21 season due to Covid! About 50 guys already on posted fall roster, with walk-on tryouts still to come. NCAA eliminated the 35-man roster cap altogether so teams are bringing in lots more players. With 29 returning players plus 21 new guys Szefc is setting up the team for lots of internal competition. If past seasons are a guide Szefc typically relies on at most 11-12 position players and maybe 12-13 pitchers over the course of a season. So either there’s going to be some big roster cuts or a lot of rostered guys will never see the field
