You play your three every year teams, let's say Virginia Tech, UVa and Navy (just an example). Then every other year you play either the Northern 4, or the Carolina 4 or the Southern 4 in a home and away schedule. So in 6 years you play the entire east coast home and away. That's only 7 games. You still have 5 games to play USC-w, Stanford, Michigan, Texas and let's say Washington or whomever you want to make it National. Now you have got a chance at a Conference title and you play the most National schedule you have ever played by far. Of course if you aren't playing the Southern Quad you might have Georgia instead of the ones mentioned or someone similar. So forget the regional schedule, we both agree that won't happen, but you could easily do a National Schedule with Quads and have a much better chance to make the National Championship since the winner of the Quad matchup goes to the Conference Championship. I have said for many years if we have a P-4 the Conference Champions go and if they win they advance. (The Conference Champion game is the Elite round)

I just don't see how ND is not way better off with that, other than the emotional statement which is almost always a turn off for me, "we have always done it the way". That statement could get you fired if I am your boss. :-) I despise it.
