Lost to Duke yesterday, so now it's basically a 3 way tie w/Duke, VT, UNC
with all three having gone 1-1 vs each other.
We play NC State twice, which should be 2 W's for us. UNC plays lowly UVA twice and Duke plays them once. It should end in a three way tie for first in the pod for the Fall season.
They haven't announced the schedule for the Spring yet. So far, we played in the weakest of the three Pods and we've done way better than expected. While Duke and UNC are in the top 1/2 of the ACC with us, which sounds great, we missed the best 4 ACC teams in terms of talent, GT, ND, Louisville, and Pitt. Pitt, Louisville, and ND were in a brutal pod where even Syracuse is pretty good as the 4th best team in the pod. Only BC (0-8) was really bad in that pod. The southern pod with GT, Clemson, Miami, FSU, and Wake was a little better than ours as well.
That Spring schedule is the key. We'd have an outside shot at making the NCAA Tournament in a normal year, but they are only taking 48 teams this year instead of the normal 64. With 32 of the teams being automatic qualifiers, there are only 16 at large bids being handed out. While I'd love to miss Pitt, ND, Louisville, and GT, we really need to beat two or three of them in the Spring in order to get a look at an at-large bit.
Still, great season already for a new coach running a new system with a bunch of transfers and a true freshman setter getting serious playing time.
