I’m giving my son (14) the rifle I learned to shoot on for Xmas

It’s a model 24 Savage over & under. I took it to a gun smith today to make sure it’s still safe to shoot. It is safe and the gunsmith offered me 1k for it. I had no idea it was worth that. It was less than $50 new. 4 generations will have learned to shoot on this gun. My great grandfather bought it in 1949.
