Perhaps the most telling example of what you describe (great athlete at a


small school) was Hershel Walker. He attended Johnson County High School in Georgia. Even today, there are fewer than 10,000 residents of Johnson County. He probably had a graduating class of no more than 150 people, and there were likely far fewer than that. His high school game films look like one big guy running at regular speed and a whole bunch of small guys running in slow motion. He did not start in his first game at UGA but was the star of the game and became a Heisman Trophy contender in his true freshman season.
