The Westlake (really North and West) side is closer to Roanoke & has more


amenities year round than the South Lake side. Westlake even has a real grocery store vs mart style gas stations. There is more golf on Westlake side, but Water's Edge is on the South side if you're in to golf. SML can get hugely crowded on weekends so don't expect to be alone.
