When I graduated in June, my student deferment ended. In early July, I had my "Greetings" letter from Uncle Sam. I also got a call from the secretary at the Draft Board back home. She said she had taken the liberty of giving my name to the local Navy recruiter.
Long story short, I traded 2 years active duty in the Army, and a high chance of going to the jungles of Nam, for 4 years active in the Navy.
