Your last couple of sentences..

are an often underappreciated aspect of the staff during the heyday years, and criticism of some of Beamer's staff in later years and a glaring weakness of the staff during Fuente's tenure so far. There is also the good chance that in Beamer's later years and now with Fuente that at least some of that weakness is caused by factors beyond the control of either staff. That is not an excuse for either staff just an acknowledgement of the likely reality.

I can tell you for a fact that during Beamer's heyday there were several kids whose name would be recognizable that the staff were warned off of for varying reasons. There are also some kids who became stars or integral pieces of the team because they were highlighted to the staff by coaches and not always their own coach. Having good relations with high school coaches is just like having a minor league scouting service that baseball has employed for years. However, the dynamic has markedly shifted from earlier times with the growth of 7 on 7 and other handler/street agent types. Football has gotten a lot more like basketball and, in my opinion, that shift has not been for the better.
