the current D staff and defense has had huge challenges. Not really looking for a debate as to who has had it worse because, just like beauty, that debate is in the eye of the beholder.

Finally, no I am not saying anybody who is not highly acclaimed is mediocre because everybody has to start somewhere. I am saying that the sum total of their experiences are important in taking a chance on someone, especially when moving up a level. Just as important, what they do with that chance and the results they produce are the confirmation. My opinion of Scott was he was mediocre at Memphis and I think we have different perspectives on how much he was succeeding on the field at VT prior to his dismissal and, more importantly, whether he could have ever effectively stepped in for Bud. However, I do believe he was an integral support piece for CJF and his dismissal further complicated a challenging situation.
