Conference champs or NY6 bowl? I think at some point those accomplishments are likely. National champions? I think it’s pretty unlikely.

I can imagine college athletics undergoing some more significant changes in the future but, in the current system, VT has fallen significantly behind financially. Maybe we find another ultra-loyal, diamond-in-the-rough head coach who can punch above his weight with less and everyone has enough patience for him to learn, evolve, and master his craft, then the AD can capitalize and close the financial gap. Would certainly be a rare exception rather than the rule though.
